Cold temperatures in Jammu and KashmirMinimum temperatures in the valley fell below freezing point on Monday, with Srinagar recording a low of minus 3.4°C, Qazigund minus 1.0°C, Pahalgam minus 4.7°C, Kokernag minus 2.7°C, and Gulmarg minus 9.6°C.
Upcoming snowfall forecastThe Meteorological Department has forecasted “isolated” light rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours, followed by widespread moderate snow and moderate to heavy snow over the middle and higher reaches of J&K from January 24th to 25th.
Continuation of winterKashmir is currently under the grip of Chillai-Kalan, a 40-day long harsh winter period that began on December 21st. This will be followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’.
Recent snowfallIn the last 24 hours, Srinagar received 2.6cm of snowfall and reports say that snowfall was also received from some upper reaches in the Valley.

Srinagar’s temperature was 1.1°C below normal, Qazigund was 2.9°C above normal, Pahalgam was 2.8°C above normal, Kokernag was 0.9°C above normal, and Gulmarg was 1.4°C below normal.
